If you complete the PGCertInfoGov with a GPA of 4.0, you will have the option to staircase into the Master of Information Governance and reassign the 60-points of courses you have already completed, provided the PGCertInfoGov has not been awarded.*

The PGCertInfoGov consists of 4 courses that total 60 points. Each course runs over a 10-week quarter. You can take either one or two courses per quarter, allowing you to complete this programme in 6-months full-time or 12-months part-time.

| INFOGOV 703 | Technology and Compliance | Explores blockchain technology, and other distributed ledger technologies with reference to compliance, including their implementation and impact in industry and on society. The legal issues arising from the use of smart contracts are investigated. | 15 |
| INFOGOV 704 | Artificial Intelligence Regulation | Critically analyses the legal and policy issues created by advanced artificial intelligence technologies, including regulatory response. Evaluates efficiency, proportionality and necessity of existing or suggested regulation, and develops proposals for the regulation of future challenges. Develops independent research skills including an ability to work in multidisciplinary groups and communicate findings to audiences from a range of disciplinary and jurisdictional backgrounds. | 15 |

Techniques and best practice for facilitating negotiation of disputes through mediation including skills to assist dispute resolution. | INFOGOV 709 | Access to Information | Explores access to information from a global and national perspective. Critically evaluates individuals’ right to access to information. Examines the interrelationship between access to information, privacy and data governance. Addresses techniques and procedural rules to evaluate the validity of requests for access to information and grounds for refusal. | 15 |
As a graduate of the PGCertInfoGov, you will gain the following key skills:
- Demonstrate a specialist understanding of underpinning principles and concepts of privacy and information governance and be able to apply them to practice.
- Identify, analyse, and synthesise issues and ideas related to information governance, and build logical and well-informed arguments
- Frame and analyse information governance issues and propose logical courses of action that acknowledge contextual factors and concerned stakeholders.
- Clearly communicate information-governance issues and ideas in appropriate styles and multiple formats and to demonstrate effective teamwork skills.
- Work and think independently, showing self-directed learning and attending to professional and ethical considerations related to privacy and information governance.
- Demonstrate respect and consideration of the values and principles underpinning Te Tiriti o Waitangi as well as of cultural diversity, equity, and sustainability in the context of privacy and information governance.

Courses are paid per Quarter. Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $4.44 per point (online). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.
Who, What, Why
Professor Tana Pistorius joined the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Auckland in June 2019 as a Professor of Commercial Law. She became Head of Department in January 2020 and has been appointed as the Programme Director of the new Information Governance Programme. She has a keen interest in data protection and information technology law.

- The intention of the Scholarship is to encourage diversity of participation in the privacy and information governance profession, including from Māori and/or Pacific communities, to advance social equity and digital literacy, and to provide opportunities for lasting impact in New Zealand and globally, by supporting a student to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Information Governance at the University of Auckland.
